Women in government
The women in politics 2017 map, created by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) shows slow progress towards gender equality at the executive level. Heads of state or governments in Europeare still almost entirely male.In 2016, women made up 9.5% of the heads of state elected by the citizens, 14.3% of the heads of state appointed by parliament, and 12.2% of the heads of government (when the head of state was not the head of government). A majority of member states never even had a woman deputy prime minister or vice-president. The average percentage of women ministers in national governments in Europe is 22.4%.
